Making Money Online; First, Find the Passion in Your Life!
![]()
When you are new to the idea of having an online business, many times it’s hard to figure out exactly what your passion is. Some people start an online presence without even considering whether or not they will enjoy it. For most, the motivation is simply money. A business without passion is just a j-o-b. Sometimes people think they know exactly what they want to do online. But, once they get serious about it and start the refining process they find that it can be a bit confusing. Either you have too many things that you really enjoy and it is hard for you to narrow it down to just a couple or you have absolutely no idea what products or services to offer or what to even blog about! I hope to present you with a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing so you can figure it out! Being online if you do it right will become a way of life; a lifestyle. I can’t tell you what to be passionate about but I can assist you in your journey to discover more about yourself and what excites you! If you are having trouble identifying what your particular passion is, I invite you to view my video below. I made it just for you!
Connect With The Inner YOU
Where do you find passion? Inside yourself. Each person is completely unique. So, first, you have to become familiar with who you are, what you enjoy, and what you are good at or want to learn more about. This means you have to take good care of yourself and get connected. For some people, this is very difficult. I’m not suggesting you become self-centered and arrogant, but you have to know you in order to discover your passion. Take time for yourself, respect yourself, slow down, take good care of your health physically and mentally. Read quality books, articles, and uplifting materials. You have to start the process by caring for yourself. How can you help anyone else unless you are in tune with you? Love has to begin with you before you can share it. You have to present yourself to the world so others can discover you. How can you “present yourself” if you don’t know yourself?
An online presence will stretch you, take you out of your comfort zone. You will probably be chatting with people, emailing, Skyping, and using other forms of communication. If you are new to online communications, I must stress that you will eventually have to learn about technology and marketing. Your success will depend upon it! When you have an online business, you will be assisting others. If you share knowledge, learn how to really connect with people, they will in turn learn to like you, trust you, and purchase from you. Some, if you desire, will perhaps partner with you in business.
As you start to really connect with your feelings, you’ll be ready to do a little exploring to discover the specific, personal things that best ignite your passions. As you begin your journey of self-exploration, keep a daily journal. Spend one week discovering what excites you, touches you, inspires you to think in a whole new way, or even frustrates you. Get ideas from stories in newspapers, TV shows or conversations with friends may give you an indication of the things that can lead you to your passions.
Think about the following:
• What hobbies, interests, passions or desires are you afraid of admitting to yourself and to those close to you?
• What do you think your best qualities are?
• Can you think of someone that is doing something you’d like to do? Someone living a lifestyle that you’d like to live? Describe yourself doing it and write the description in your daily journal.
• Think about ways you can make the world a better place for yourself and others. Write your ideas in your journal for further contemplation.
• What do you think is stopping you from moving forward with exploring your passion?
Your passion may not announce itself loudly but come as a soft whisper. If may come as a prompting, a moment of inspiration. This is similar to what is meant by trusting your gut. Find your inner voice. Everyone has an inner voice. Actress Sissy Spacek says, “Everyone has an inner voice; you just have to listen to it and trust it in order to be led by it,” Sissy says. “I did that, and it gave me the ability to live a life that’s true to who I am and what I really wanted.”
Your passions could lead you in a lot of different directions to find fulfillment. Explore your life and uncover the things that bring you joy.

Hi Deborah ~ I love this post…maybe that’s because I can relate. When I first began my online journey, I had no real direction. It was kind of like, just jump in and get involved, which unfortunately led to me taking in too much information, getting distracted & unfocused…basically overwhelmed, and so I found myself burned out a little bit. I took about three months at the end of last year and in that time, really focused on what I wanted…what was important to me (and why!) and what got me excited ~ like as you say, find your passion! Since I’ve made that shift, things have been a lot easier and seem to flow better ~ I don’t feel so boggled down with too much information, so now, my time spent online is now a lot more fun and productive for me. I appreciate you sharing this outstanding post

Hello Deborah,
Here I am again . . . and as always, enjoy reading your posts. This topic is extremely important for not only our business; but life’s journey as well. The day we find out our passion, the day we are cognate of what has us turned on and what has us turned off . . . That is the day our life turns around.
A great article and I look forward to a return visit.
Go out and make it a great day!

Robin,
Without passion, what would the motivation be? I have visited blogs and websites where the focus and intention is just to generate income for the owner but I’m not inclined to stay on the site or want to know more. Their intention is clear and I’m not attracted to them at all. It’s like a “salesperson” in your face trying to push you to buy something… so I leave! Either that, or its just boring and uninteresting.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting!

Great post Deborah, definitely is a topic that needs exploring. I for one am someone that has too many passions and not enough conviction to stick to any of them. I want to be able to blog about one thing for awhile and then another. I have been through a really interesting phase trying to work out where to take my blog and you have given my more food for thought here thanks.

Hey Deborah,
I loved the probing questions that you have here for helping people discover their passions. I totally agree that if you don’t work from your passions, then it is just a j-o-b. What’s the point?
Thanks for sharing such an important aspect of online business ownership.

Hey, Debbie!
I appreciate the support. Too many people get caught up in the fantastic “sparkle” of a new business opportunity and totally lose sight of the “real” factors to focus on. I always tell everyone to take their time, do the research, and “think” it through.
I’ve been enjoying your message and look forward to your latest posts!

Hi Deborah! Thanks for this. I have several passions but it seems not the time
I guess I just need to cut out sleeping
Seriously though, fitness right now is number one, but I also LOVE woodworking. I know I need to set up my site for that and start this process o line but finding the time is really a sore spot right now. Thank you for reminding me of my passions.

My husband loves woodworking, too. I love your humor! As long as you are happy, feel fulfilled, you’re doing something right. The time will come when you will be able to integrate other passions as well. You will know when that time comes!
Thanks, Bill!

Hi Deborah, I so agree that it is wise to first consider what you would enjoy doing. The online world has so much to offer that it should be possible for all of us to find something that we enjoy doing. This is a much better approach than to follow the next best thing every time someone tries to sell you on it.
I love the fact that you not only recognize the importance of enjoying what you are doing, but you also give suggestions on how to find out what that might be for others. This is a much harder task for some of us. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Deborah – great looking Blog and interesting post. Passion really is the magic ingredient req’d to fuel action isn’t it?
I recently revisited a book from awhile back called the Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge where he talks about Goals-Vision and Purpose-and the distinctions – When Passion aligns with Purpose things seem to fall into place and serendipity seems to work for us – often times our goals are out of sync with what we’re really wanting out of life and that’s when frustration kicks in.

An amazing book you would enjoy is called the Passion Test. A friend of mine actually does classes and workshops on helping people identify what truly is their passion.
Amazing post, during my classes I continue to drill into my students that if you are not going to create a site around your passion or something you love you are going to just waste time. It will become a chore and a job to work on it and you most likely will never make any money with it.
By knowing your passion it really does make life worth living.
Have a wonderful day!

Thanks so much for sharing this Deborah. So many people have trouble defining what they are the most passionate about. Any kind of tips and tricks to pull this out is helpful. The question of what is stopping you from moving forward with exploring your passion is a good one. To me, the only thing in my way is disorganization and some days just a plain old inability to focus. It is so frustrating to feel like I have frittered away a whole day. I am getting better at setting goals and making lists, though. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Nicole Rushin recently posted..Stretching and Leaping to Reach Your Goals
I agree Nicole. Being distracted or disorganized is typically THE reason people don’t get things done. For myself, it’s just truly amazing how fast the hours fly by. Sometimes I wonder if I got anything done on certain days. I think just staying focused, take steps each day to achieve the things you have determined you really want, and just keep putting one foot in front of the other!
I love it when you stop by Nicole. I appreciate your input!
Have an amazing day,
Deborah
WOW great post I really needed to read that today. I have been starting think a lot about that. And finding what my true purpose and passion is in all I am doing and where I would like to take it. Thank you for sending that out there.

Hey, Julie: Thanks for commenting! It was funny to me when I first started this blogging project. I thought I had it all figured out; knew exactly what I wanted to promote. Then, I was speaking to Rod Inacio, now a biz partner of mine, and he gently got me to start talking about what I loved doing, what made me happy. Then, on went the lightbulb! I was about to make a big mistake! When someone helps you redirect your focus to where it should be, you’re grateful!
Much success to you, Julie,

Hi Deborah,
I agree it is important to find one’s passion first…and it’s certainly well worth doing that work up front. After all, if you are going to spend all your hours at it, it ought to be something you love. I think it’s also reflected in the work done. Thanks for spreading the word.

Hi Deborah,
I couldn’t agree more. That’s exactly what led me to what to the work that I do today and continues to do so as I look at other exciting opportunities.
With a passion for what you do it means that even the toughest of days aren’t as soul destroying as when working in a going through the motions environment.
I loved the quote by Sissy Spacek, I hadn’t seen that before!
